Plan to Redeem America—Part 3 of 3
By Kent Greenough

The election of 2010 will be one of the most important elections in our nation’s history. We will decide if we as a nation continue the slide into socialism or if we reclaim our republic. In 1971, I took an oath as a young Marine second lieutenant to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That oath has no expiration clause. That is why I’m running for Congress, and why I ask for your support. Here is my plan to redeem our country.

Overhaul the tax system.

For an amendment that started with only 38 words, the tax code has grown to over 67,000 pages. Even the IRS cannot give you an accurate interpretation of the code 2 out of 3 times. Billions of dollars are wasted in our attempts to comply with this labyrinth of legislation. It is time to “keep it simple, stupid.”

My plan:

      1. Support a flat income tax of 10%. Unlike the Fair Tax, this does not require a Constitutional amendment.
      2. Eliminate the unearned income tax credit. If you didn’t earn the money, you shouldn’t get it back.
      3. Eliminate the death tax. No person should visit the undertaker and the IRS in the same week.
      4. Re-authorize the Bush tax cuts.

Energy.

We must reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Energy independence is a strategic imperative. What good is a B2 bomber without the fuel to deploy it. America and its industries move on oil. Junk science and bad legislation cannot rewrite the physics.

My plan:

      1. Stop “Cap and Trade.” It is policy based on junk science to achieve political control. If passed by a lame duck Congress, repeal it.
      2. Allow responsible drilling on the continental shelf
      3. Allow responsible drilling in ANWAR and in other US oil deposits
      4. Support “clean coal” initiatives
      5. Build new refineries
      6. Build new nuclear power plants
      7. Continue to explore alternative and green energy sources

In 2008, this nation elected a man who promised “change you can believe in,” only to discover that he wants to change what we believe in.

Here’s what I believe in:

      1. I am pro-life and commit to defend the right to life of all: the young, the old and the unborn. I oppose public funding of abortions.
      2. I am pro-family and commit to defend the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.
      3. I absolutely defend our right to keep and bear arms. I have no doubt what the founders meant when they wrote the words “shall not be infringed.”
      4. I commit to support TN’s state sovereignty as guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment.
