The election of 2010 will be one of the most important elections in our nation’s history. We will decide if we as a nation continue the slide into socialism or if we reclaim our republic. In 1971, I took an oath as a young Marine second lieutenant to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That oath has no expiration clause. That is why I’m running for Congress, and why I ask for your support. Here is my plan to redeem our country.

Illegal immigration

Illegal immigration is a threat to our security, our economy and our society. We can no longer afford the Democrats’ plan to enlist a new voting block without consideration of the real cost. For example, it is estimated that California would have a $2 billion surplus rather than a $9 billion deficit if illegal immigration were controlled. We do not want this to happen to Tennessee.

My plan:

1. Secure the borders. Congress committed funds to build a fence on our borders. I will get it built.
2. End the “anchor baby” policy.
   
3. Support the e-Verify system and prosecute employers who knowingly hire illegals.
4. Enforce existing federal law. The Obama Administration is wrong to prosecute Arizona for defending its borders.
5. End taxpayer inducements to illegals. We cannot afford free education, welfare or medical care for illegal immigrants. Send them home!
6. Look closely at legal immigration policies. The U.S. currently legally allows over 1 million new aliens each year. Immigrants from terror related countries must be properly vetted for health or security risks.

Homeland Security

We are fighting a military, cultural and religious war. I was a Middle-Eastern history major in college. I’ve worked in Bahrain, Dubai and Israel. I know the enemy and what we are up against. The Obama Administration’s concessions to Islamic extremism is an affront to any liberty loving American.

My plan:

1. Secure the borders
2. Support realistic rules of engagement for our military
3. Ensure peace through strength, not appeasement
4. Support Israel. We must support our most important ally in the Middle East.

In 2008, this nation elected a man who promised “change you can believe in,” only to discover that he wants to change what we believe in.

Here’s what I believe in:

1. I am pro-life and commit to defend the right to life of all: the young, the old and the unborn. I oppose public funding of abortions.
2. I am pro-family and commit to defend the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.
3. I absolutely defend our right to keep and bear arms. I have no doubt what the founders meant when they wrote the words “shall not be infringed.”
4. I commit to support TN’s state sovereignty as guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment.

Kent Greenough is a small business owner, husband of 39 years to his wife Jan and father of two grown children. Kent was commissioned an officer in the Marine Corps and is a graduate of UCLA with a degree in Middle Eastern History.
