Kent’s
background is one of service to his country, with a strong foundation in
freedom, accountability and integrity. He grew up with the sounds
of freedom ringing in his ears. He served his country as an officer in
the Marine Corps. His father was a colonel in the Marine Corps, his mother a
Navy nurse who served overseas in World War II. Janis, his wife of 38
years, was a Marine Corps officer, as was her father. Their daughter is a
third generation woman officer and a graduate of the Naval Academy. Their
son is a certified airline mechanic. Janis currently teaches American
History at Columbia State Community College.
Kent
earned his Bachelor's degree at the University of California, Los Angeles in
Middle Eastern history and has traveled to the Middle East. He knows
first-hand the history of the region and the very real threats that our country
faces from the terrorists. His commitment to protect our borders from
external threats comes from years of study and first-hand experience.
He knows that we must never have another 9/11 in this country and what needs to
be done to prevent it.
Kent
understands the needs of the small businessman and the importance of small
business to the growth of our economy. He is a small businessman
himself. He spent over eighteen years in the fast-paced world of high
technology, facing high risks, impossible odds, and an ever-changing business
environment. He’s helped small companies bring innovative technology to
market. And he can bring that same entrepreneurial spirit and can-do
attitude to job development in the 4th District.
Kent
is not a Washington insider. He’s never worked for a Congressman, lobbied
for a special interest or been part of the Beltway culture. But for over
25 years he has followed the business of government and has an extensive
knowledge of budget processes, acquisition policies, funding and spending
issues. He knows the current budget situation is not sustainable, that
the deficit must be drastically reduced. And he has the know-how to
effectively reduce it.
Kent's
business experience has taken him to Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
The world is a global economy. We need a representative in Washington who
has first-hand experience with global business and can literally hit the ground
running to bring jobs to the 4th District. Kent has that experience and
the commitment to do something about it.
Kent
believes in our right to keep and bear arms. An expert with both rifle
and pistol, Kent taught over 4,000 Marines as officer-in-charge of the rifle
range. He is pro-life and pro-marriage.
Kent
believes strongly in church and community. He has served as Chairman of
the Lincoln County Republican Party, and is currently Commandant of the Lincoln
County Marine Corps League, Chairman of St. John's Parish Council, and a member
of the Fayetteville Rotary Club.
Kent
is running for Congress because the country is headed in the wrong
direction. We need representatives that have the courage and ability to
change that direction, to bring common sense back to government, to get
government out of the business of business and out of our lives. As
your next Congressman, Kent will ensure that the conservative values we cherish
will be heard in the halls of Congress. Kent grew up with the sounds of
freedom ringing in his ears. He wants to make sure that our children and
children’s children also hear those sounds of freedom.
He
brings the spirit of an entrepreneur, the mind of a businessman and the heart
of a patriot to the challenges facing our district and our country. He
has spent a lifetime focused on solutions, not slogans, on service, not
sound-bites. He has a proven record of doing with a dime what others
could not do with a hundred dollars. He will bring accountability and
responsibility back to government.
